Frequently asked questions
- How do I shrink a PDF I already have?
- Open SlimScan and tap Shrink a Big PDF, or share the PDF to SlimScan directly from Mail, Files, or WhatsApp (tap Share → SlimScan). It imports the PDF as pages, ready to compress and re-send.
- How small will my file actually be?
- With the default EMAIL setting, SlimScan targets about 75 KB per page — so a 20-page document comes out under 1.5 MB. You can also choose TINY (40 KB/page) for the smallest possible file, or HI-Q (150 KB/page) when quality matters more than size.
- Why do some pages look black-and-white and others stay in colour?
- In AUTO mode, SlimScan keeps genuinely colourful pages (photos, coloured diagrams, letterheads) in colour, and converts plain text pages to sharp black-and-white — because black-and-white text compresses far smaller than colour JPEG without losing any readability. You can force COLOUR, GREY, or B&W for every page from the mode dial if you prefer.
- My scan has a glare spot from a light or a window. Can I fix it?
- Yes. Open the page in the editor and tap Remove Glare, then scan the same page again from a slightly different angle. SlimScan combines both photos and keeps whichever version is glare-free in each spot. Turning your camera flash off before scanning glossy paper also helps a lot.
- Can I leave pages out of the PDF, or crop them?
- Tap any page thumbnail to include or exclude it — the file size updates instantly. Tap Edit under a page to crop it, remove glare or rotate it. Touch and hold a page to move or delete it.
- What's the free trial, and what does the $4.99 unlock?
- Your first 3 exported PDFs are free (each carries a small watermark). After that, exporting is paused until you unlock SlimScan with a one-time purchase ($4.99 in the US, CHF 5 in Switzerland, €5.99 in the eurozone; the App Store shows your local price) — no subscription, ever. The unlock removes the watermark, removes the export limit, and works across your devices with the same Apple ID.
- I bought the unlock before, but it's asking me to pay again.
- Open the unlock screen and tap Restore Purchase. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you originally purchased with.
- Does SlimScan work without an internet connection?
- Yes. Scanning, editing, and building PDFs all happen entirely on your device, so SlimScan works fully offline — including in flight mode.
- Does SlimScan collect any of my data?
